Quiet the Inner Critic and Curb the Self-Sabotage – Tess Fyalka

CILCSA is thrilled to present the first event of 2023 and we couldn’t be more excited about our keynote speaker.  Tess Fyalka serves as Director of People Operations for O’Shea Builders and has a private coaching practice, Angle Coaching and Communications.  As both an internal and external certified professional coach, she specializes in leadership development as well as team coaching.

In the past week, day, or even hour, how often have you criticized or harshly judged yourself, orthers, or the situation?  This is the destructive voice of the inner critic.  And it is a very powerful force that pretends to be your friend, but is the primary source of limiting beliefs that hold you back and interfere with your professional and personal effectiveness. In this session, you’ll learn the many forms your inner critics take and spot ways in which they can sabotage your ability to engage effectively as leaders, colleagues, and fellow human beings.  But, most importantly, you’ll walk away with strategies to keep them in check, and maybe even leverage them.

“WOW” Award Winner, Brad Hanson!

Brad Hanson’s nomination once again proved that BUNN Gourmet is customer focused and their top concern is exceeding the needs of their clients.

After receiving product as a gift that was not of the top-notch quality expected from Pease’s, the nominator sent a letter to simply make them aware of the product issue, knowing that they would want to look into it to keep their chocolates at the highest level of quality. To his surprise, Brad offered to replace the box with a new box of chocolates, even thought they had all been eaten by guests visiting for a wedding!

His nomination read:

“I stopped in to pick up a few days later, and the box was waiting for me. Everyone was so friendly and happy to assist me. As the saying goes, “people may not remember what you said or did, but they will remember how they made you feel”. In todays environment, when so many are stressed, and service can be poor, Brad stepped forward and made sure he listened to understand, and that my next experience was a great one.”

What is the WOW Award?

The “WOW” Award is our opportunity to recognize those unsung heroes that lift our spirits and inspire us through their simple or extraordinary acts of kindness or superior customer service.  All nominations are presented to CILCSA’s Advisory Committee for a thorough review before a winning nomination is selected by vote.  Winners are recognized, typically at their workplace, with an award delivered personally by members of CILCSA’s Board of Directors.   

By recognizing those who make a difference in our lives, we are challenged to think about how we can do the same for others.  It’s often not even what we do, but how we do it.  Together, one personal encounter at time, me can make our Springfield a happier place to be.  A place where people feel respected, included, and welcomed.

CILCSA Appoints Michael Thomas as Board President!


CILCSA is happy to announce the organization has appointed Michael Thomas, Business Relationship Manager for Express Employment Professionals, as Board President to the non-profit’s Board of Directors, beginning on January 1, 2023.

“The mission of CILCSA resonates with me on a deeply personal level,” Thomas said.  “I believe that great customer service is the key to growth in any community.  CILCSA has been delivering quality customer service programs since 2015 and I look forward to leading our charge for the future.”

Thomas focuses his free time on community service to organizations such as United Way and Salvation Army.  Michael and his wife, Rachel, reside in Springfield and have three children.

Thomas replaces outgoing President Lisa Nardi, who will remain on the CILCSA Board of Directors.  “It has been an honor to serve CILCSA as Board President and I look forward to working with Michael and the rest of the board to help make Springfield the friendliest city in Illinois,” said Nardi, who is also the Dual Director of Sales at Ehrhardt Hospitality-Residence Inn & SpringHill Suites in Springfield.

Aaron Davis

On Thursday, May 5, CILCSA was thrilled to present Author and Speaker Aaron Davis.  Aaron is a leading authority and expert on the importance of having a positive attitude and has shared his message with over a million people about how, "It's not WHAT you do; instead, it's HOW you do it!".

As a member of the 1994 National Championship Nebraska Football team and working with numerous corporations & organizations, he understands firsthand what it takes to perform like a champion & experience incredible results both personally & professionally by maintaining a positive attitude!

Aaron is not just a speaker “telling” other companies and individuals how to succeed. He’s a successful business owner; Consultant, and Peak Performance Coach & had roles in start-ups and corporate America. He’s received numerous awards and accolades, and he’s a proud University of Nebraska alumnus earning his degree in Psychology.

Aaron has spoken for some of the top companies and universities, including Farm Bureau, Walmart, ConAgra, USC, Penn State, Texas A & M, and many more!

Aaron delivered in a big way!  While CILCSA Members left this educational session feeling inspired and uplifted, it was a lot of fun too!  

With a ton of energy in his delivery, Aaron shared a positive message with numerous takeaways for members to share with others!
